When I was in high school I made a bucket list. On that list included Machu Picchu Peru, Hawaii, an African safari with the big 5, and…MOUNT FUJI, JAPAN!! I was THRILLED when Steve surprised me with tickets to Japan because I knew my dreams of seeing this mountain would come true!

The trick to seeing Mt. Fuji was somehow fitting its way into the agenda…it’s a little off the beaten path if you’re traveling from Tokyo to Kyoto. So we did our research and booked one night stop in Fujiyoshida, a beautiful little town at the base of the mountain.
On the bus ride there Adelaide made friends with the sweetest little girl from Malaysia. They spent the entire ride sitting together, playing, and teaching each other new words. (mostly her friend teaching her…she was TRILINGUAL! How cool is that?!)
When we arrived, not only did we get to experience the Mountain with FULL visibility (which I’ve read can be rare!) but we experienced it during the peak of Cherry Blossom Season! (aka Sakura)
They were gorgeous. When we were hiking up the path to the Chureito Pagoda Shrine (which has an amazing view of Mt. Fuji at the top) the petals were falling around us like snow. At first Adelaide thought it was actually snow!
While we were there we stayed at a traditional Japanese hotel, also called a ryokan. We slept on the floors (the baby included!) and ate a very delicious, and unique Japanese breakfast. The food was cooked right in front of us and include sausage, rice, fish, eggs, veggies, and fruit.
In the morning we walked around the lakes and town, found our bus, and enjoyed full visibility on the ride out from the town.
We loved Mount Fuji!! Arigato!
