We have an amazing front yard, an beautiful backyard, but had a very pathetic side yard. The man we bought our house from collected cars and used to have a giant carport on the side of the house. He (thank goodness) took it down when we moved in and left behind a giant mud pit that wouldn’t grow anything. We never really knew what to do with the space, until I was hit with some inspiration from a landscaping magazine.
Steve and I have had SO much fun working together planning and building our new patio area. It’s incredible how we feel like our house is much bigger after this project – it’s nice to have an outdoor area that’s functional and so so pretty!
How did we get this look?
1. Dug in the red scalloped edging from Home Depot into a creative pattern we made together
2. Dug an inch into the mud pit and covered it with a tarp to prevent weeds from growing through
3. Measured the square footage and ordered the right amount of Delaware river rock to as our patio gravel. The rocks have a great coloring and are super smooth on bare feet.
We LOVE our new outdoor space!
