Tips for Toddler Travel

February 24, 2014

By plane or car Steve and I have gotten much better at preparing for long trips with the little man. Last year we moved across the country, and Frank’s flown since he was 3 months old.   However we’ve only mastered the preparing part…actually accomplishing travel without major meltdowns is another story.

After my most recent trip I’m sharing some little things that made a world of a difference:

Make a travel box!

This was SO helpful on our trip.  I bought a Jake and the Neverland Pirates metal box from party city for $6, and filled it with goodies for the plane ride. This also is great for long car rides.

In the box:
Organic gummies
Animal crackers
Squeezable smoothie
Extra headphones
Mini toy airplane (or car)
Squishy ball
3 crayons
Mini drawing pad.
This all fits into the little tin, which can fit into his little backpack.

In his little backpack:
Travel Box
Small blanket
Extra Diapers and wipes
Socks
Pajamas

Keep a secret stash of lollipops in your purse.
Last resort only!!  Keep them secret, keep them safe. (also I just found out my girlfriend from Ohio calls them “suckers”…this made me laugh because I’m incredibly immature)
Those delightful suckers also helped his ears during the landing.
Bring your tablet!

We don’t have 4G, but luckily airports have free wifi.  Netflix was a lifesaver when Frank was on the verge of meltdown after SIX long hours in the airport.  We don’t do the whole ipad thing with Frank for various reasons, but traveling is the one exception.  Once again Robin Hood saved the day!

Any ideas for travel with littles that you could share?

Thanks, that's helpful! We'll be traveling to California for 2 weeks for the next wedding with a 3 year old and an 18 month old. Favorite toys, special snacks, special surprises, and the Kindle fire have been great for us so far.- Francie T.

Welcome to my little blog!

I am a wife, mother and follower of Jesus! I love to document our day to day family adventures, traveling as often and as much possible! I love the ocean, fashion, a well planned party, and good books (especially ones about hobbits!)

So glad you are here!

Love, Charlene
