This summer was a whirlwind. I’ve learned so much in so little time, and God has blessed our family abundantly. There is now a saint in the family. My littlest one went to Jesus, and we baptized him Augustine Faustus McGuckin. He was beautiful, and brought pure joy to our lives while he was on Earth. He still brings joy to our lives knowing that he is with our heavenly Father, knowing that someone who is so deeply connected to Steve, Frank, and I, now stands before the Lord. And our Augustine is happy.
We laid our beautiful little one to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Manahawkin, New Jersey which is only 10 minutes away from the Island where Steve and I went on our first date, were married, and have gone on many vacations together there since. In fact, Augustine was in my tummy the week of our last vacation there.
Steve and I always knew we’d have an Augustine, and our baby’s life was planned by the Father since the beginning of time. When we were on our honeymoon in Hawaii Steve had a random dream about St. Augustine, and we woke up that Sunday to find that the Church next to our hotel was in fact the Church of St. Augustine. We knew that once day we would name a child Augustine, but always wondered what the nickname could be. A friend of ours suggested, “Auggy” and although I wasn’t crazy about it, Steve thought it was cute.
The day we learned that Augustine had passed, a car with the license plate “Auggy” drove in front of us. At that moment I knew his name, and Steve agreed. Not only that, but the week Auggy passed was during the feast of St. Augustine. God is good.
So, my little one, may you be eternally at rest, eternally happy, and eternally pray for your Mom, Dad, brother, and any other siblings to come. We love you forever, and know we will see you soon.
God gives, God takes, God’s name ever be blessed.
