Christmas break was a whirlwind. A fantastic whirlwind. It’s always a challenge trying to see both families and fitting in about 10 million family parties. But it simply reminds us how blessed we both are to have such big (HUGE) loving families. The only downside was getting very sick and missing a close friend who is engaged… 🙁
-A trip to LBI, where Steve and I spend childhood summers, went on our first date, first kiss, were married, and have been vacationing ever since. Steve also rode his first wave there this summer. It’s an island of firsts and it’s still our favorite place in the world. We were so happy to see how much has been rebuilt already since Sandy, yet it was still bitter sweet to see all of the damage it sustained. We’ll be back to our island again soon 🙂
-Frankie’s first snowfall.
-A pre-Christmas Liddy party. The whole group was there, even Uncle John’s lovely girlfriend Meredith. (Frankie thought she was great!) Frank also got to spend time with the Kargs, including his closest in age Colette and Katie. (James wasn’t born yet) Sean and Ryan spent plenty of time with him in the basement playing on the Wii.
-Christmas Eve with the McGuckins. Mom and Dad McGuckin always make an extraordinary seafood feast on Christmas Eve: Crab legs, calamari, jumbo shrimp, and halibut. I’m convinced that Steve’s Mom is secretly Italian and that the Perry’s just haven’t told her.
-Christmas Day with the Leskauskae. It was the first year Frankie was truly aware of how awesome Christmas morning is. He wanted to open everyone’s presents! Although the only present he played with (big surprise) was the basketball Gigi and Grandpa got him. (The hockey stick was given about 2 minutes) We spent Christmas dinner at Aunt Sandra’s. It was so nice to spend time with Yma and Papa. Frankie got a Hess Truck Helicopter and (drumroll please) an authentic Woody doll!! As in, “there’s a snake in my boot!” We added it to the many things he surrounds himself with before bed.
-A trip to the city with Mom and Dad McGuckin, Bill, Michelle, Chris, and Steve and I. We went to see the broardway show “Once”. Awesome Italian dinner before the show, and fun trip to Bryant Park after the show. (Note to self…bring extra shoes.) Can’t walk in high boots like a used to. I think my feet just used to always be numb when I lived in the city. Great show, fantastic Irish music, and there was an actual pub on stage. A perfect show for Steve? I think so. Thanks Mom and Dad! 😉
-Yma and Papa’s 50th Anniversary Party and vow renewal. Such a beautiful day. Besides the ceremony itself, the best part was watching Yma and Papa dance to their song.
